We sat and talked with Rachel, author of Crochet Donut Buddies and we got the chance to get to know her better and learn more about the book and her passion for crocheting.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi, I’m Rachel, a mom of 2. I love to crochet Amigurumi, go for long walks, I love the outdoors and will Crochet outside as much as possible.
Tell us a bit about your new book?
Crochet Donut Buddies is a fun, Kawaii, book of character donuts, perfect for babies imaginative play and development.
What is your favourite project/technique featured?
I just love the Donut Buddy Sunflower it is so fun and cheerful. I also love creating the scallop edging on the Jellyfish Donut
How do you think you reached this point in your craft?
I started Crocheting from a young age and have always been into crafting after watching my grandmother Make Amigurumi I was hooked. I love to challenge myself with new projects and techniques.
Where do you look for inspiration: travel, other designers, Pinterest?
I look for inspiration everywhere, if I see a flower in the park I take a picture as this could be my next project, or a picture of a toy bunny. I love to take inspiration from everywhere.
What is the most challenging thing about being a designer/artist?
Designing new Amigurumi work is definitely challenging, with so many wonderful designers you need to research alot to find unique makes.
What makes up for the challenges?
When ever I make an Amigurumi piece that others love it really pushes me to keep creating. I love when others love my work.
What do you think the “Next Big Thing” in your craft will be?
I’d love to design more of my Plush Buddy Minis patterns. I enjoy making little plush characters.
Who (dead or alive) would you invite to the perfect Crafting retreat?
I would absolutely love to invite my grandmother to a crafting retreat if she was still with us today, I’d love to sit and chat to her while we both crocheted, I believe she would be so proud of how far I have come.
What advice would you give to your beginner self?
Don’t give up! Keep pushing yourself and believe you can do it!
In one word, how would you describe your book?
Which project would you recommend from your book for a beginner to try?
Donut Buddy Bunny was my very first Donut Buddy I had ever created so I love to recommend this one to beginners.
One fun fact about yourself not many people know?
I can speak Egyptian Arabic and I have met quite a few celebrities.
