We’re proud to announce we’ve brought home an industry award again for 2023. After attending the Independent Publishers Guild Awards (2023) yesterday we’re happy to announce we won ‘Specialist Consumer Publisher of the Year’.
The Independent Publishers Guild awards were held on March 22nd at London’s OXO Tower and brings publishers from across the country together to celebrate their success throughout the industry. Publishing houses including Bloomsbury, Canongate, and Nosy Crow were in attendance, alongside industry names and sponsors like Gardners, The Bookseller and ReadMedia.
We were also delighted to be nominated also for the Deanta International Award and Virtusales Metadata Awards. We were among some talented and successful publishers from across the UK and would like to congratulate them all on their nominations and wins. The award, which praises publishers for their success within a specialist category, was accepted by Ame Verso, Publishing Director for David & Charles.
Here’s what Managing Director James Woollam had to say:
“We were delighted to win this award for a 2nd time and it is a great reflection of all the hard work put in by the team and just recognition for our fantastic authors. Congratulations to the other nominees and winners, and thank you to the judges and the IPG.”
When talking of the win, the judges said “David & Charles is the Specialist Consumer Publisher of the Year for the second time. It has successfully expanded beyond its core arts and crafts categories, with new focus on wellbeing, books-plus ranges and craft kits. Judges liked its high production standards, superb digital marketing and global reach. A judge said: “To achieve all they’ve done just a few years after a management buyout is very impressive. It’s a classic specialist independent that owns its niche.”
