There are many choices available to authors for new book publishing. While we are entirely committed to commissioning new authors, we can also support authors who have chosen to self-publish. It is increasingly common for authors to have a mix of traditionally published and self-published books available.

Our Assisted Publishing service allows self-published authors access to the same sales and distribution reach that all of our books benefit from, including the potential for foreign language rights. The critical difference is that we play no role in the concept or creation of the book and this is reflected in a greater financial reward for the author.

Although we are open to any new assisted publishing submission, we have the right to refuse any project. Projects that we would consider to be a good fit for this are:

  • Books by existing David and Charles authors that have not suited the traditional publishing model.
  • Books by existing David and Charles authors that might have been published elsewhere but for which the author now holds the rights.
  • Books that are a good fit for our current active categories: art, craft, wellbeing and classic cars/automotive.

You can find out all the information you need about our assisted publishing model in our handbook.
